25 October 2023

The eighth edition of the Media Forum of the Republic of Moldova will take place on 4 and 5 December 2023 in Chișinău. The Forum is convened annually under the aegis of the Press Council to debate the problems of the Moldovan journalistic community and identify and promote solutions to strengthen editorial independence and sustainability of quality media in our country. Registration for the Forum will be open from 6 November 2023 on the platform Mediaforum.md.

Moldova Media Forum is organized annually by the Press Council in partnership with the Association of Independent Press (API), the Independent Journalism Centre (IJC) and the Association of Electronic Press (APEL). At this year's edition, journalists and experts from the country and abroad, representatives of public institutions and regulators will take part in debates on the state of the media in the Republic of Moldova and public trust in the press.

The costs of editorial independence, innovative editorial approaches, artificial intelligence tools that can be used in journalism, conflict–sensitive reporting – these are the topics of the workshops to take place during the two days of the Forum, with experts from Lithuania, Romania, Germany, and United States of America. The Forum will present the 2023 edition of the Freedom of Information Index in Moldova, developed by Freedom House, and will hold a discussion on this topic with the participation of representatives of the authorities.

On the first day of the Forum, the Press Council will present the 2023 National Award for Journalistic Ethics and Deontology. Traditionally, a special event of the Forum will launch the "Black Book of Public Money Waste," 2023 edition, and announce the results of the "Investigative Journalism of 2023" competition. Another special event will award the winners of the second edition of the national competition “Journalists for Diversity and Inclusion.”

Following debates and thematic workshops, a Resolution of the 2023 Media Forum will be adopted and submitted to national authorities, foreign representations and embassies, European and international organizations and experts monitoring the democratic development of the Republic of Moldova.
