EU Local Grants, Media and Communication Program Announces Selection Process Final Results

The EU Local Grants, Media and Communication Program, implemented within the project "Empowering Citizens of the Republic of Moldova," has selected 15 non-governmental organizations and their partners from the regional media that will benefit from support with implementing information and promotion projects in the field of public services and environmental protection. The project "Empowering Citizens of the Republic of Moldova" is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Agency for International Cooperation of Germany (GIZ), and the project partner for increasing the potential of visibility and involvement of citizens is the Association of Independent Press (API).

The 15 non-governmental organizations selected are: Info Dava, Anima, Nord Media, Express, Universal Media, Eurodemos Plus, Ecologic Movement of Moldova, ASCED, Association of Environmental and Ecological Tourism Journalists, Meridian Group Media, Cahul 2030, Prospect, Feed-Back, Piligrim Demo, Media Birlii Media Union. Each beneficiary association will have one or more regional media partners and will cover localities in one or more districts in all development regions (North, Center, South and ATU Gagauzia). Hence, information and promotion activities in the field of public services and environmental protection will be carried out by: the newspaper Observatorul de Nord in Soroca, Nordnews.md portal in Bălți, Expresul newspaper in Ungheni, AlbasatTV television station in Nisporeni, Radio Orhei radio station, the newspaper Cuvântul in Rezina, the magazine Natura, the radio station Eco FM, the portal Ziuadeazi.md in Cahul, the television station MediaTV and the newspaper Gazeta de Sud in Cimișlia, the television station BasTV in Basarabeasca, the portal Nokta.md, the ATV television station and the Laf.md portal in Comrat.

 

The beneficiary organizations have been selected after a complex administrative and technical evaluation process that, at the last stage, included online interviews with the representatives of each organization. You can read here how the evaluation process unfolded.

 

In the following months (the projects will last between 6 and 12 months), the non-governmental organizations and their media partners in the regions will carry out specific activities aimed at:

 

Efficient information of citizens on issues related to environmental protection (impact of illegal landfills on health and environment, wastewater discharge), water supply and sewerage, solid waste management, energy efficiency;

 

Promoting the partnership between citizens and local public administration in planning, creating, continuous monitoring and improving public services;

 

Informing citizens about the subscription and payment for quality public services, understanding the purpose of tariffs to cover the costs that will ensure the sustainability of quality public services.

The Local Grants Program is launched on the basis of the Single Support Framework of the European Union (EU), granted to the Republic of Moldova (2017-2020) under the European Neighborhood Instrument, through the project "Empowering the Citizens of the Republic of Moldova" (2019-2021), funded by the European Union and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The project partner for increasing the potential of visibility and involvement of citizens is the Association of Independent Press (API).
