API Launches New Version of MoldovaCurata.md Portal

02 January 2020

The Association of Independent Press (API) launched a new, improved and modernized version of the anticorruption portal MoldovaCurata.md in the first days of 2020. This online platform promotes integrity in public service and monitors the work of the National Integrity Authority (NIA). Upon launching the new version of the website, the MoldovaCurata.md team proposes several new stories and investigative reports about the assets and interests of persons holding public offices, including of President Igor Dodon.

The portal www.MoldovaCurata.md has been reorganized, with an easy to navigate structure and keeps the main rubrics of the website’s old version: “Integrity”, “Undeclared Assets and Conflicts of Interests,” “Investigations,” “Watching NIA,” “Know Your Candidate!,” “Flag Abuses”, and others. At the same time, the portal ensures the interactive character of communication with the users, has new technical features and multimedia effects, a search engine and access to the published stories archive. MoldovaCurata.md has a design that is adapted to various computer resolutions, with the possibility to be viewed from any device with a modern browser while the users can download the mobile application moldovacurata for telephones with the operation systems Android and iOS.

Undeclared Assets and Incompatible Positions

On the launching of the portal’s modernized version, the MoldovaCurata.md team proposes several stories and investigative reports about the assets and interests of persons holding public offices. Hence, the story “Igor Dodon’s Family Uses Three Cars But President’s Office Does Not Admit It,” journalist Natalia Enache presents details about several cars used by President’s Dodon family but that cannot be found in the assets declaration of the chief of state. MoldovaCurata.md found out that two of those cars had been donated to the Socialists Party in 2016, during the presidential election campaign.

“Public Dignitaries in Priestly Clothes” is a story signed by the journalist Lilia Zaharia, which reviews the cases of incompatible positions held by two mayors elected during the elections of autumn 2019, who are also priests that hold services and other religious rituals. Although legislation forbids persons holding public offices to hold another paid position, the locally elected officers do not consider that they are in a position incompatibility.

The Moldovacurata.md portal has been reorganized with the support of the Good Governance Program of Soros Foundation Moldova. In 2020, API and Moldovacurata.md will further monitor NIA’s work and the effectiveness of public policies on integrity, will organize public events on integrity in the public service, and will flag the failures of persons holding public offices to declare their assets and interests.
