The non-governmental media organizations condemn the inadmissible and dishonorable behavior of the lawyer Cătălina Galușca in relation to the journalists of the "SP" newsroom and request the Ethics and Disciplinary Commission of the Lawyers' Union of the Republic of Moldova to initiate the disciplinary procedure regarding her. According to the media institution, the avalanche of threats from the lawyer intervened after the publication of an article about the violations committed by a driver who was illegally maneuvering around the fir tree in the city of Balti. Shortly after the publication of the article, Cătălina Galușca sent a message to the "SP" reporter, asking her to exclude the video recording of her car from the published article and threatening to take the editorial office to court. (Quotation: Я подаю на ваше издательство в суд. Имедленно уберите видео в сегодным номер с моей машиной. Я – ярости! Ето разглашение проссональных данных что наказивется по сагону! (Quote: Вы делать очень плохую вещи, плохую, я ченью, для вашей издения, которые я вам просто обечаюю, что я его закрою.) – Translation in footnote[2] Later, the defiant rhetoric of Cătălina Galușca evolved, the lawyer resorting to personal threats addressed to the "SP" reporter. Obviously, her status as a lawyer and, implicitly, her professional knowledge increased the impact of her threats. We remind you that, according to chapter XII, para. (1) of the Code of Ethics of lawyers from the Republic of Moldova, the lawyer must display a dignified behavior that does not harm the image of the profession in society. At the same time, art. 10, para. (1) of the Law on Advocacy provides for an impeccable reputation as an inherent condition of the person practicing the profession of lawyer. We bring to your attention that the intentional obstruction of the media or the journalist's activity, as well as the intimidation of the media or the journalist for criticism, is a crime provided by art. 1801 Penal Code. We consider the behavior of the lawyer as shameful, inadmissible and dishonorable for the profession she exercises. Undeniably, the actions of Cătălina Galușca represent a defiance of the freedom of the press and lead to the undermining of public trust in the legal profession. Therefore, the non-governmental organizations: Request the Ethics and Discipline Commission of the Union of Lawyers from the Republic of Moldova to issue a decision regarding the application of the disciplinary sanction regarding the lawyer Cătălina Galușca; It urges all people who consider themselves harmed by the media's activity to resort to legitimate means of defending their rights, freedoms and interests provided for by law and to give up the abusive and illegal practices of intimidation of journalists.
