PUBLIC APPEAL: We request media access to town hall meetings
27 September 2021
The lack of media access to the weekly meetings of the town hall services and the impossibility of answering clarifying questions regarding the information presented can lead to a superficial approach to subjects of public interest and unilateral, incomplete or erroneous information of the residents about the activity of the Chisinau town hall.
The pandemic situation has generated changes in the activity of several state institutions. Since March 2020, the weekly meetings of Chisinau City Hall services, attended by the general mayor, deputy mayors, representatives of prices, municipal enterprises and other subdivisions of the city hall, are held online. Meetings are broadcast live and on social media. The municipality's efforts to reduce the risk of infection of city hall employees by limiting live interaction and, at the same time, to ensure access to the information discussed in these meetings are appreciated. At the same time, the lack of media access to the weekly meetings of the town hall services and the impossibility of asking clarifying questions about the information presented can lead to a superficial approach to subjects of public interest and unilateral, incomplete or erroneous information of the residents about the activity of the Chisinau town hall. In this context, understanding the importance of comprehensive and equidistant public information, the signatory media organizations and institutions request to ensure media access to the weekly meetings of the town hall services and to be given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the meetings. We remain open to establish the optimal method and conditions of access to the weekly meetings of Chisinau City Hall's services held online.
