Mass-Media Forum 2016 will take place on december 2-3

On the 2nd and 3rd of December 2016, Chisinau will host the Mass-Media Forum 2016, which is expected to be attended by about 150 journalists, publishers, media managers, other staff of Moldovan media institutions, representatives of media organizations and associations, advertising agencies, academic environment associated to journalistic education, experts from the country and abroad.

The Forum is organized by the Press Council in Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the Association of Independent Press (API), Independent Journalism Center (IJC) and Association of Electronic Press (APEL). The organizers aim to bring up for discussion the main problems faced by Moldovan journalistic community, examine the fulfilment of “Roadmap” for mass-media development in Republic of Moldova, produced at Mass-Media Forum 2015, and suggest completions to this document and other solutions for existing problems, the enforcement of which would ensure a loyal competition climate and facilitate the publishing independence of mass-media institutions in Republic of Moldova.

On the first day of Mass-Media Forum 2016, a debate will be organized on Moldovan press condition. For this event, the following officials have confirmed their participation: the Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu, the Prime-Minister – Mr. Pavel Filip; representatives of the diplomatic corps and international missions have been invited, as well as some media experts. Additionally, three master-classes will be held, involving presentations of some foreign experts: David Barstow, senior editor at The New York Times, winner of Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism, the U.S.A.; Evgheni Kiseliov, journalist at TV News One, Ukraine; Ioana Moldovan, photo-journalist, Romania. At the end of the first Forum day, a special presentation devoted to innovations in journalism will be delivered.

During the second day of the Forum, the participants will have the possibility to discuss various problems in journalists’ professional activity and come up with solutions within six thematic workshops conducted simultaneously. Later on, a resolution and completions to the „Roadmap” for mass-media development in Republic of Moldova will be discussed and approved. These documents will be forwarded to the authorities, translated to English and Russian languages, and circulated to foreign representatives and embassies, European and international organizations and experts monitoring the country’s democratic development, and other possibly-interested persons and institutions. The working language of the Forum will be Romanian, with simultaneous interpretation into Russian and English during the opening and closing sessions of the Forum.

The official website of Mass-Media Forum 2016 is the online platform www.mediaforum.md , on which a special page has been created - http://mediaforum.md/event, being permanently updated with relevant information about the event, including the list of speakers and experts, Forum agenda etc.

Beginning with the 1st of November till the 20th of November inclusively, persons willing to take part in Mass-Media Forum 2016 may register online by filling in the application form on the website. The organizers will process all registration applications and send confirmations to the selected persons. The list of participants will be published five days before the beginning of Forum.

The first edition of Mass-Media Forum in Republic of Moldova took place on 27-28 October 2015.

The development of Mass-Media Forum 2016 is financed by Mass-Media Program of Soros-Moldova Foundation, Council of Europe Program “Promoting professional and accountable journalism by means of supporting the regional self-regulatory structures network” and the U.S. Embassy in Republic of Moldova.
